The 19th edition of the Go tournament of Lyon will take place on February 16th & 17th 2019. You will find below practical information about it.

General information

Date : February 16th & 17th 2019
Place: Lyon Olympique Échec, 5 place du Marché 69009 Lyon (Google maps link)

Tournament rules

-5 games (3 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday)
-Mac-Mahon system with top group. Handicap bar set to 1d
-French rules
-1h per player + byo-yomi of 15 stones for 5 min
– Fee : 10 euros

To compete in the tournament, you must be either part of a club member of the Fédération Française de Go or live outside France. If you are not part of a club when the tournament starts, you can subscribe to the club of Lyon. After the tournament, you will have the possibility to transfer this subscription to the club of your choice.

Schedule

Friday – 7 pm – the QueensTown welcomes go players. Possibility to eat and play Go

Saturday – 7:30 am – Opening of the gates. Players are welcome.
Saturday – 8 am – Opening of the subscriptions
Saturday – 9:30 pm – Closing of the subscriptions
Saturday – 10 am – Game 1
Saturday – 1 pm – Lunch break
Saturday – 2 pm – Game 2
Saturday – 5 pm – Game 3
Saturday – 8 pm – Game night (Go or other board or card games)

Sunday – 9 am – Game 4
Sunday – 12 am – Lunch break
Sunday – 1 pm – Game 5
Sunday – 4:30 pm – prizes ceremony

Note: the schedule of the tournament is changing this year. The idea is to spend a nice evening in playing games or visit of the city, instead of a late game 3 after dinner. Please do not hesitate to arrive on Friday night, we will warmly welcome you at the QueensTown (where go players meet each Friday) where you can eat delicious burgers. For players arriving on Saturday morning from far away, we will help for subscriptions (see section below).

Online subscription

The online subscription is highly recommended. It will be of great help for the organisation of the tournament.

How to access the tournament?

  • Underground – D line (green) – Stop Valmy
  • Buses – C6, C14, 2, 5, 31, 90 – Stop Valmy

From Lyon Part-Dieu railway station
Take underground B line (blue) direction Oullins. Change at Saxe-Gambetta station for D line (green), direction Gare de Vaise. Stop at Valmy station.

From Perrache railway station
Take underground A line (red) direction Vaulx-en-Velin la Soie. Change at Bellecour station for D line (green), direction Gare de Vaise. Stop at Valmy station.

Accomodation

It is possible to ask through the online subscription form to sleep at a Lyon Go player’s place (number of places limited – first arrived, first served). Otherwise there are many youth hostels, hostels or AirBnB nearby.

Food

Food & drinks will be proposed during the tournament. You will find sandwiches, salads, pastries… and soft drinks as well as drought beer. Please note that there are also several restaurants & bakeries nearby.
