EUROPEAN PAIR GO CHAMPIONSHIP 2012: LYON, June 2nd and 3rd
We are pleased to invite you to the 15th European PairGo Championship, June 2/3 2012. It will take place in the center of Lyon, in the old town:
"La Maison des Passages", 44 rues saint Georges, 69005 Lyon.
La Maison des Passages is located just in front of Saint Georges Church. The "Vieux Lyon" subway station is 5 minutes by foot.
The old town is very attractive and an UNESCO site. All along the Saône River, from Saint Georges to Saint Paul and around Saint Jean, Old Lyon is full of interesting architecture, small wine bars and restaurants, pedestrian zones and terraces to relax. Just above, on the Fourvière Hill, you can visit the roman amphitheatre, Fourvière Basilica and its gardens.

About the Championship:
Conditions applicable to participations:
- Each pair must consist of one female and one male player.
- Both members of each pair must be passport holders of the same European country.
- Please try to pre-register before 25 May 2012 for preparations to run smoothly.
- Note that pre-registration must be finalized by being present at the tournament venue in the morning before the tournament starts: pairs arriving after 10:30am Saturday 2 June will not be able to participate.
Tournament conditions:
- 5 or 6 Rounds McMahon or Swiss tournament system
- Even games, komi: 6.5
- Time regime: 45 minutes sudden death
- Japanese rules
- Japanese International Pair Go rules
- If McMahon is used as the tournament system, the top McMahon group will be formed with all dan level pairs and all national representative pairs.

The European PairGo Champions will win a seat to participate in the International Amateur PairGo Championship in Tokyo (3/4th November 2012), with the same conditions as all other European pairs (9 or 10 additional, not yet decided). The main point: This is the first time that a pair can win a ticket for the Championship directly, without being nominated by the national organization and independent of the points their "passport-country" has currently ( see http://eurogofed.org/egf/pairpoints.htm ). If the top-pair does not want to go to Japan, the next best placed gets the opportunity, and so on.

Motoki Noguchi, 7 dan, will be present throughout the event. He will give commentaries and run a workshop Saturday evening starting at 20:30.
For each round, the first two gobans will be broadcasted on IGS Pandanet.
Accomodations:
- Auberge de jeunesse du Vieux Lyon [youth hostel]. Adress : 41 Montée du chemin neuf. The youth hostel is located on the Hill of Fourvière, just above the tournament site. You can go 10 minutes by foot , or by funicular, from "Vieux Lyon" station to "Minimes" station, then go down the street Montée du chemin neuf until the youth hostel.
Because of the very nice location of the youth hostel (you can see the entire town from the terrace), it is very often full. So if you are interested, do not wait to reserve. To do so, and take advantage of the negociated prices, do not reserve directly at the youth hostel but send an email to mc.chaine@wanadoo.fr and detail how many persons and which nights.

- From Saint-Exupéry Airport: Take the Rhônexpress Express Tram to Lyon Part-Dieu station [30 minutes].

- From Perrache station [if you arrive from Paris by TGV train]: 15 minutes by foot to the tournament venue, or take metro A to "Bellecour" station, then metro D to "Vieux Lyon" station.
- To the youth Hostel: At the "Vieux Lyon" station, take the funicular F1 to "Minimes" station. Then go down the street "Montée du chemin neuf" to the youth hostel.
- To the tournament venue: Leaving the "Vieux Lyon" station, turn right and follow the "rue du Doyenné" to the St Georges church and rue Saint Georges.
